Farkas Boyiai ( Hungarian. Bolyai Farkas ; 1775-1856) - Hungarian mathematician and poet (in Russian sources there are many options for writing his last name: Bolyai , Bolyai , Boyai , Boyai , Boyai and even Beaulieu .). His articles in German were signed by Wolfgang Bolyai. Father Janos Boyai .

Biography
Farkas Boyiai was born on February 9, 1775 in Boya (now Buyia, Sibiu County , Transylvania , Romania ). At the age of 12, he left the Calvinist school and was appointed a mentor to the 8-year-old son of Count Kemen. Both boys were sent to a Reformed (Calvinist) collegium in Kolozhvar .
He studied in the UK and then at the University of Gottingen , where he became closely acquainted with Karl Friedrich Gauss [1] .
In his youth, he tried his hand at poetry. He wrote five dramas, of which the most famous are “Pausanias” and “Simon Kimeni”. In addition, he translated “The Experience of Man” by Pop and other poems. Later, however, Boyai devoted himself exclusively to scientific studies [1] .
Upon returning to Transylvania in 1802, Farkash Boyai was appointed professor of mathematics, physics and chemistry at the Reformed College in Marosh-Vashargeli [1] .
Farkas Boyiai died on November 20, 1856 in the city of Tirgu Mures .
According to the ESB : “His main work,“ Tentamen juventutem studiosam in elementa matheseos methodo intuitiva introducendi ”(2 vols., 1832–33), embodies the development of the theory of parallel lines independent of the Euclidean XI axiom. The Appendix to this work was written by his son John B. ” [1] .
