History

In 1951, Miya (迷 易县) County, which was part of the Xichang Special District (西昌 专区), was formed from part of the territories of Dechan and Huili provinces of Sikan . In 1952, the spelling of the county was changed from 迷 易 to 米 易. In 1955, the Sican Province was disbanded, and the Xichang Special District was transferred to the Sichuan Province. In 1970, Xichang Special District was renamed Xichang District (西昌 地区). In 1978, Xichang County was disbanded, and Mia County was transferred to the jurisdiction of Dukou City District. In 1987, Dukou was renamed Panzhihua.
