Computed Tomography Laser Mammography

Computed tomography laser mammography ( Eng. Computed tomography laser mammography, CTLM ) [1] - a type of optical tomography for visualization of the mammary glands during the diagnostic examination of women . In turn, CTLM is a trademark of the American company Imaging Diagnostic System, Inc., IDSI .

Principle of the method

This imaging method uses near-infrared laser light to detect angiogenesis (neoplasm of the blood vessels to feed a malignant tumor ) in the tissues of the mammary glands . Computed tomographic laser mammography (in contrast to computed tomography , which uses x-rays for diagnostics) is an optical molecular imaging method for oxy- and deoxy-hemoglobin, using laser beams that undergo attenuation when penetrating tissues. Thus, the laser detector measures the decrease in light intensity. Moving around the sample, he collects data and recreates the tomographic image. The resulting image shows the distribution of hemoglobin in the tissue, and also reveals the proliferation of blood vessels that feed the malignant tumor , contributing to its growth and development.
