"Higher Ground" is a song by American funk musician Stevie Wonder , the first single from the Innervisions album. The song reached number four on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and reached the top of USA Hot R&B [1] . Wonder composed and recorded the song during a three-hour creative impulse - in May 1973 [2] . The album version contains an additional verse and lasts 30 seconds longer than the single version. The unique sound of the song was achieved due to the keyboard passed through the pedal wow effect of Mu-tron . As a bass, a Moog synthesizer was used in the song. Through consistent instrumentation, Wonder himself played all the instruments, including the drums.

Criticism Reviews
In 2004, Rolling Stone magazine put the song on 265th place in its list of “ 500 Greatest Songs of All Time ”, writing: “The song was recorded shortly before the accident, which almost became fatal for Wonder - the singer was in a car accident and was in a coma within a few days. When Wonder came to his senses, the musician’s travel manager sang the melody of this song in his ear; Wonder replied by moving his fingers to the music. ” [3]
