Museum of the Moving Image

Museum after reconstruction, 2011

Museum of the Moving Image ( Museum of the Moving Image ) - a museum of cinema , television , video and computer games in the quarter of Queens , called Astoria .

After the movie moguls Jesse Lasky and Adolf Zucor united their studios in 1916 and formed the Famous Players-Lasky company, Kaufman Astoria Studios was built to shoot films in New York . Here, the early films of the Marx brothers and some other films were created that left a mark on the history of cinema.

When in 1970 it was discussed the demolition of buildings of a long-empty film studio, the Astoria fund bought the site. In 1988, the first museum in the United States, entirely dedicated to the history of cinema, was opened on this territory, with a cinema equipped with the latest technology [1] .

In 2008-2011. a large-scale reconstruction of the museum was carried out, as a result of which its area doubled. To the trustees of the museum, this expansion cost $ 67 million.

The Moving Image Museum not only makes it possible to see film rarities on the big screen, but also holds round tables devoted to new premieres. Gamers are attracted to Astoria by a huge collection of video games and related equipment [2] .
