Biological Description
The fruiting bodies are cup-shaped, initially spherical or ovoid, then expanding, often with a tearing edge, usually sessile, sometimes on a small stalk.
The inner spore-bearing surface is opaque, bright orange, yellow-orange or red, the outer sterile side is yellowish-gray, greenish or bluish. If damaged, the fruiting bodies acquire a sharp dark green or black shade.
The pulp is fragile, bright yellow.
Spore powder is white. The spores are unpainted, rounded, with smooth walls, collected eight in aska , each of which is about 150 Γ 10 microns.
The caloscifus is most often indicated as an inedible mushroom. Apparently non-toxic, however, it has no nutritional value. It is considered one of the most colorful spring mushrooms.

Ecology
Kaloscifa is a rather rare species that appears from late April to early June, not annually, but in some years in large numbers. It is noted in coniferous and deciduous forests on the litter, under spruce, aspen and birch. It is more often found in mountain forests, sometimes together with a morel cap , a giant line and an elongated microstomy .
It is included in the Red Books of the Czech Republic and Norway with the status of a rare species. In the Red Books of Slovakia , Croatia and the United Kingdom it has the status of a vulnerable species, in the Red Book of Estonia - close to vulnerable. Also included in the list of protected species in Poland and Lithuania .
Taxonomy
The brilliant Kaloscif was first described by Christian Hendrik Persona in 1822 in a prefabricated genus of cup-shaped discomycetes with a bare edge. In 1885 Emil Budier was singled out as a separate genus Caloscypha .
A rare form of a caloscif with white fruiting bodies, with age and with bluish damage, is described - Caloscypha fulgens f. caesioalba gaggian. & Parrett.
