Lyutka red [1] , or dusky hatchway [1] ( lat. Sympecma fusca ) is a species of dragonfly belonging to the Lyutka family . The species is distributed mainly in the European Mediterranean, as well as in Central and Eastern Europe right up to the Urals. Unlike most other species of dragonfly, the red hatchback winters not in the larvae stage, but in the imago stage. Sexual dimorphism is not pronounced. Wings 20-22 mm long. The body is slender, belly 27-29 mm long. The main color from light beige to brown.

The larva lives in standing bodies of water up to 1 meter deep. The summer of winters imago begins in April — May. Mating lasts from a few minutes to half an hour. Then the female lays eggs on the dead parts of aquatic plants. In a minute the female lays 4-5 eggs, per day in various places up to 350 eggs. The development of eggs with a length of 1 mm lasts from 3 to 6 weeks.
