This species lives along the coast of Europe and North Africa, including in the Mediterranean , Black and Caspian seas, in the low-salted Baltic Sea [2] [3] . In northwestern Europe (including the British Isles), he usually lives on the open coast [4] . It lives at a shallow depth, burying itself in sand and silt.
The shell is small, round or oval-quadrangular, thin-walled, almost not elongated, with strongly protruding tops located almost in the middle of the dorsal margin. The color is white or gray, the back margin is often with a brown spot.
The heart-shaped ones have a strong wedge-shaped leg and with its help they not only move and quickly dig into the ground, but also jump a few centimeters above the bottom when they are in danger from their enemies. [one]
The green heart can grow up to 50 mm in length. In the north-west of Europe, it spawns in May-July; the plankton larval phase lasts 11-30 days. Lives, as a rule, 2-5 years [5] .
