Biography

Born on December 19, 1918 in the village of Yunakovka (now Sumy district of Sumy region of Ukraine ). After finishing six grades of the school and the school of factory apprenticeship, he worked first at a metallurgical plant, then at home. In 1943, Okhrimenko was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . Since March of the same year - on the fronts of World War II. He was wounded twice in battles [1] .

By September 1943, Sergeant Nikolai Okhrimenko commanded a machine gun at the 465th Infantry Regiment of the 167th Infantry Division of the 38th Army of the Voronezh Front . He distinguished himself during the battle of the Dnieper . On the night of September 29-30, 1943, Ohrimenko’s crew crossed the Dnieper and took an active part in the battles for capturing and holding the bridgehead on its western shore, personally destroying the enemy’s machine gun point. On October 12, 1943, in a battle near the village of Lyutezh in the Vyshgorodsky district of the Kiev region of the Ukrainian SSR, Ohrimenko was wounded, but continued to fight [1] .

By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of November 13, 1943, for “courage and bravery shown when crossing the Dnieper and holding the bridgehead on the right bank of the river,” Sergeant Nikolai Okhrimenko was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal number 3271 [1] .

After the war, Ohrimenko continued to serve in the Soviet Army. In 1948 he graduated from the Kronstadt Naval Technical School. In 1975, with the rank of Colonel Ohrimenko, he was sacked. He lived and worked in Kiev . He died on January 28, 1978, was buried at the Baikov cemetery in Kiev [1] .

He was also awarded the Order of the Red Star and a number of medals [1] .
