Balla, Laslo Karlovich

Laszlo Karlovich Balla (July 23, 1927, the village of Pavlovts (now the Vranov nad Toplou region , Presovsky krai , Slovakia ) - October 28, 2010) - Ukrainian and Hungarian poet, novelist, translator, journalist, editor. Honored Worker of Culture of Ukraine . Laureate of the I. Franko International Prize and the Hungarian La Roche Nadia Prize.

Biography

He studied at the Kosice , Uzhgorod , Kisvarda gymnasiums, in 1945–1946 - at the Uzhgorod Art School, and in absentia passed exams at the pedagogical department of the University of Pécs (Hungary). From 1945 he lived in Uzhgorod.

L. Balla began his career as a sculptor, later - director of an art salon in Uzhgorod.

In 1947 he was invited to work in the newspaper "Karpati Igaz Szo" ( Hungarian- language edition of "Transcarpathian truth"). From 1951, he was the editor of the newly created Hungarian editorial office of the book and magazine publishing house Karpati, subsequently the editor of the Hungarian editorial office of the publishing house Radyanska School, and taught Hungarian literature at Uzhgorod University .

From 1965 - deputy editor-in-chief of the newspaper Karpati Igaz Szo reorganized into an independent publication, and from 1967 until retirement in 1987, she was editor-in-chief.

Brother - Pavel Balla (1930-2008), Ukrainian painter.

Creativity

He wrote mostly in Hungarian.

L. Balla began his literary activity while studying at the gymnasium. From his pen came out more than 50 books - poems, short stories, novels, novels and dramas, journalism, art criticism.

Deserved fame brought him collections of poetry "Sing louder" (1951), "With an open heart" (1954), "Under the shadow of a century" (1989), a book of short stories and short stories "Writing need a bicycle" (1965), "Cry of a copper plate" (1985), "The Fiery Passage", the novel "Clouds without rain" (1964), the cycle of historical novels "The meeting place is infinity", on which he worked for more than twenty years. His last book is Memoirs.

A special merit of Laszlo Balla was his translation activities. He translated into Hungarian works of T. Shevchenko , Lesia Ukrainka , V. Stefanik , M. Kotsyubinsky , I. Franko , L. Martovich and many other famous Ukrainian writers, published the Anthology of Modern Ukrainian Poetry.

L. Balla's books were published in Uzhgorod, Kiev , Moscow , Budapest , his works were translated into many European languages.

Awards

The literary work of L. K. Balla is highly noted both in Ukraine and in Hungary. Honored Worker of Culture of Ukraine . Laureate of the International Literary Prize. I. Franko Prize to them. Layosha Nagy (Hungary), the regional literary prize them. F. Potusnyak.

He was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, orders of Hungary, Honorary Diploma of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Honorary Honor of the National Union of Writers of Ukraine, several medals, Honorary awards of the regional administration and the regional council.

The merits of Laszlo Balla were marked by a special pension of the President of Ukraine.
