Description
The design is based on other electric trains of the Electrostar family. All trains are equipped with a lower current collector for operation on 750V DC lines (this type of electrification is typical only for the lines of the southern region [1] . A rounded section of the side allows narrow tunnels to pass through the lines of the southern region.
Operation
In 2001, part of the routes of the southern region was acquired by the Govia group of companies, the task of the new operator was to improve the situation - the previous operator Connex received numerous passenger complaints. It was urgent to update the rolling stock, as Slam-doors electric trains were still in operation. The first Class 377 roster was redesigned from Class 375 in 2001. In 2002, the Class 377, delivered from scratch, was delivered. Operation with passengers was delayed for technical reasons, it began only in May 2003. In the same year, the delivery of the first two parties was completed - one for South Central, the other for First Capital Connect. Further deliveries were also for these companies (operator South Central was renamed Southern). Operation is carried out on the lines of the southern region, and two-system versions of electric trains also work on the Thameslink line. In 2005, the old Slam-doors rolling stock was completely replaced.
