Kings Cross Station was under construction for the opening of the first worldwide exhibition designed by John Turnbull and Lewis Cabitt. The station building was opened on October 14, 1852.
The plan has the shape of an elongated rectangle, the main facade is the south, located on the short side. It consists of 2 parallel-running arches (under each of which there is a railway track) adjacent to the main facade.
A characteristic feature of the architecture of the new type of buildings was the lack of decor, only supporting structures. The latest materials were used in the construction: the vaults are made of glass and metal, and reinforced concrete was used in the construction of the facade.

- According to legend, Kings Cross Station was built on the site of the last battle of the legendary Celtic Queen Boudica , or, according to another version, her body is buried under one of the station platforms.
- Pet Shop Boys has a song called King's Cross.
- In the story of Donald Bisset “ St. Pancras and Kings Cross”, it is told how these stations, being in close proximity to each other, quarreled. The cause of the quarrel was an eternal debate about which of them is better. This led to a malfunction in train traffic and confusion among passengers. In the end, the wise Lord Mayor of London invited the queen to issue a medal to Euston Station, which led to the reconciliation of Kings Cross and St. Pancras train stations on the basis of envy.
- In a series of novels by J.K. Rowling " Harry Potter ", it is stated that between platforms 9 and 10 there is a secret passage to the magic platform 9¾ , from which the express to Hogwarts departs. [1] Moreover, the 9th and 10th platforms are not separated by columns, but by two ruts.
