Biography
Alexey Orekhov was born on March 15, 1915 in the village of Shlyakhovo (now Korochansky district of the Belgorod region ). After graduating from elementary school he worked as a laborer. In March 1943, Orekhov was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. Since May of that year - on the fronts of World War II [1] .
By September 1943, Red Army soldier Aleksey Orekhov was a liaison officer of the 569th Infantry Regiment of the 161st Infantry Division of the 40th Army of the Voronezh Front . He distinguished himself during the battle of the Dnieper . On September 23, 1943, Orekhov was one of the first to cross the Dnieper in the vicinity of the village of Zarubintsy of the Kanevsky district of the Cherkasy region of the Ukrainian SSR and took an active part in the battles for the capture and retention of the bridgehead on its western shore. In those battles, he was injured, but continued to fight and maintain communication between units [1] .
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of October 23, 1943, Red Army soldier Alexei Orekhov was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal [1] .
After the war, the rank of junior lieutenant Orekhov was transferred to the reserve. He returned to his homeland, worked on a collective farm [1] . He died on July 29, 1988. [2]
He was also awarded two orders of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree and a number of medals [1] .
