History
The cartridge was used in the Swiss rifle Vetterli Mod. 1870 adopted by the Italian army in 1870 to replace the outdated Carcano Mod 67 . Later the rifle was modified by adding a 4-round magazine, developed by officer Giuseppe Vitali and renamed Vetterli-Vitali Mod. 1870/87. . It was used in the colonial wars of Italy, as well as in the Italian-Turkish war . During the First World War, due to the lack of small arms, issued to the colonial troops. One of the latest cases of mass use was the Spanish Civil War , during which the Soviet Union put about 16,000 single-shot Vetterly rifles to the Republicans . 1870. [1] .
Description
Brass sleeve with cap central ignition. Lead bullet weighing 28.28 grams, charge - 4.01 g of black powder. Since 1890 - 16-gram shell bullet, 2.40 g of smokeless powder (ballistic).

Intended for arming the forces of law. Brass sleeve, extended from 47.45 to 63 mm, reduced gunpowder charge. In the longer neck, three lead cylinders are inserted (with notches to form from each of the three damaging elements); in the upper part of the lead bullet with a diameter of 9.6 mm.
