He graduated from the music school in Ruse, studied at the Sofia Academy of Music, and then at the Leningrad Conservatory , from which he graduated in 1976; Kozhukharov’s teachers included Nikolai Rabinovich and Arvid Jansons . Laureate of the International Contest of Conductors in Budapest (1980).
Kozhukharov's conducting career was mainly associated with Burgas : he first worked at the Burgas Opera, then from 1987 he headed the Burgas Philharmonic Orchestra, and in 1999, after uniting the opera and the orchestra into the Burgas State Opera, he took the post of musical director and principal conductor. At the same time in 1999-2001. He worked at the Izmir Opera, collaborated with other Turkish and Russian ensembles, as well as several Bulgarian chamber compositions. With the London Symphony Orchestra he recorded music for the Italian television series Fear and Shame [1] .
