Debrecen University ( Hung. Debreceni Egyetem ) is the largest educational institution in Debrecen and one of the leading universities in Hungary .

The foundation year is considered to be the year 1538 , when a Calvinist college was opened in Debrecen. Institution repeatedly transformed and reorganized. The first university institution on the basis of Debrecen universities was formed in 1912 (Queen's University of Debrecen), later it was divided.
Established in 2000 as a result of the merger of three Debrecen universities - the Agricultural, Medical and Natural Science Kossuth University. As of 2010, the university has about 32 thousand students, of which more than 2 thousand are from abroad, and the faculty has 1.7 thousand employees.
Faculties - agronomy, arts, dentistry, economics, medicine, computer science, law, music, pharmacy, natural sciences and technology, public health, engineering, pedagogy. The university has two large campuses - the old one, most of the faculties are located in it, as well as the botanical garden, the Kassai campus has departments of economics and law, a number of small campuses are located throughout the city, in particular, the Institute for Nuclear Research and the Faculty of Agronomy have an independent campus.
The university library, which has more than 6 million units of storage, is the largest university library in Hungary, and among Hungarian libraries it is inferior in size only to the National Section Library in Budapest.
