“Otherside” is the song of the American rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers , the third single from the Californication album. The lyrics of the song are dedicated to the fight against drug addiction, a close topic for the group's vocalist - Anthony Kiedis , then an addict . The song achieved good results in the charts: it reached the 14th position in the Billboard Hot 100 (the fourth result from all the singles of the group); and reached the pinnacle of Modern Rock Tracks , the fifth single of the Chili Peppers, who achieved similar success. The song was the leader on this chart for 13 consecutive weeks, which is one of the best results in the history of the charts.

Song SubjectThe song is dedicated to one of the former members of the group - Hillel Slovak , who died from an overdose of heroin on June 25, 1988. The song says about the fight against drug addiction: "I scream / That it is not my friend / I destroy everything to the ground / But it is born again." The name of the composition is “Otherside” ( “The Other Side” ), can also be interpreted as “Afterlife”.
Music videoThe Gothic style of the video clip was inspired by the feature film “ Dr. Caligari's Study ” (1920) by Robert Wien . The band members are dressed in black, and musical instruments are presented in a surreal way: John Fruscante climbs a rope through a long corridor, as if playing the guitar; Flea plays with telephone wires - they play the role of bass strings, and Chad Smith sits on a medieval tower with a rotating clock that personifies the drum kit [2] .
