Biography
Anders Fruxell was born in 1795 in the village of Edsleskug. His family, many of whom had the priesthood, was known since the 17th century.
In 1813, Fruxell entered studies at Uppsala University . In his student days he was close to neo-romanticism , collaborated with the Poetic Calendar .
Since 1817, he worked in Stockholm as a teacher at the school of A. Afselius. In 1820 he was ordained a priest, and in 1833 he became a pastor in the Sunnah . In 1840 he was elected a member of the Swedish Academy .
Fruxell is considered the first representative to have formed in the Swedish historiography of the so-called “old school” by the middle of the 19th century. Despite the fact that he had no historical education, his Essays on Swedish History, published in 1823-1879 in 46 volumes, were the most widely read historical publications at that time. In them he used a large number of sources new for that time, and also gave them his critical assessment [2] .
