Jefferson County ( eng. Jefferson County ) is located in the US state of Kansas . As of 2010 , the population was 5,799 people. It got its name from the third US President Thomas Jefferson .

According to the US Census Bureau , the total area of the county is 1,442.5 km², of which 1,388.5 km² is land and 53.9 km², or 3.74% is water.

According to the 2000 census [1] , 18,426 inhabitants live in the district as a part of 6,830 households and 5,190 families . The population density is 13 people per km². There are 7,491 residential buildings on the territory of the district, with a building density of 5 buildings per km². The racial composition of the population: whites - 96.70%, African Americans - 0.37%, Native Americans ( Indians ) - 0.92%, Asians - 0.17%, Hawaiians - 0.01%, representatives of other races - 0.42 %, representatives of two or more races - 1.41%. Hispanic made up 1.28% of the population.
In the composition of 35.70% of the total number of households live children under the age of 18 years, 65.20% of households are married couples living together, 7.00% of households are single women without a spouse, 24.00% of households households are not related to families, 20.10% of households consist of one person, 9.30% of households consist of elderly people (65 years and older) living alone. The average household size is 2.66 people and the average family size is 3.07 people.
