The women's high jump competition at the 1932 Olympics took place on August 7, 1932 at the Coliseum Stadium.
Competition
The competition was attended by 10 athletes. The main contenders for the victory were the American Gene Shealy and Mildred Didrikson . Shealy took the bar to a height of 1.65 m on the first try, and Didrikson on the second. Both athletes did not take a height of 1.67 m, and thus, according to the IAAF rules of those years, the athletes had to jump again to determine the winner. In the final attempt, at a height of 1.67 m, Gene Shealy jumps her on the first try. Mildred Didrikson also takes this height, but the judges do not count the attempt, as she crossed the bar ahead of her head, which was forbidden by the rules of those years. The judges called this method "diving."
