Biography

Abrahamyan Karen Gurgenovich was born on May 28, 1924 in Tiflis (now Tbilisi ).

In 1942, after graduating from secondary school No. 16 in Baku , he entered the 1st year of the shipbuilding faculty of VVMIU named after F.E. Dzerzhinsky , who at that time was evacuated from Leningrad to this city. During the Great Patriotic War he passed military practice on the ships of the Navy in the Baltic.

In 1947 he graduated from VVMIU them. F.E. Dzerzhinsky in Leningrad and was sent for further service in Oranienbaum - the commander of the diving group ACS Baltic Fleet. Since the 50s, at the Central Research Institute of Military Shipbuilding of the Navy of the USSR . He led the scientific department dealing with issues of strength, stability, explosion resistance and reliability of the hull structures of warships of all classes and purposes.

In 1949-1950 he participated in the preparation and transfer of a floating dock from the Baltic Sea to the Far East and in two ship transitions by the Northern Sea Route in 1952 and 1956.

He graduated from the Naval Academy of Shipbuilding and Arms. A. N. Krylova in Leningrad [1] .

In 1956 he defended his thesis for the degree of candidate of technical sciences .

In 1972 he became a doctor of technical sciences.

In 1973, he directed the tests of the minesweeper MT-139 of project 254 for the action of non-contact underwater explosions with a large volume of measurements of parameters characterizing the effect of the explosion and the reaction of the hull and equipment to it.

For the first time, he substantiated a method for determining ice loads in calculations and normalizing the strength of hulls of surface and submarines, providing navigation in ice conditions and surfacing of submarines from under the continuous ice cover of the Arctic to solve strategic tasks assigned to the Navy.

In 1983, K. G. Abrahamyan was awarded the title of professor , and in 1984 he became a laureate of the Lenin Prize.

In 1998, Karen Gurgenovich Abrahamyan, the chief scientific associate of the Institute of Problems of Mechanical Engineering, was awarded the honorary title “Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation”. He was a member of the Bureau of structural mechanics NTO shipbuilding them. Academician A. N. Krylov, Chairman of the State Graduation Examination Commission of the Shipbuilding Department of the Leningrad Shipbuilding Institute , member of four specialized councils for awarding degrees, a member of the editorial board of the journal “Marine Herald” [2] .
