Description
The architecture of the station has much in common with the Altu-dos-Moynush station , as both stations open on the same day as part of the extension of the Blue Line to the west.
The name of the station is translated from Portuguese literally as “Orange Trees” or “Orange Gardens”. This is due to the location in the area that previously housed the orange garden. The main theme in the design of the station is also devoted to oranges. The main artist, Rolando Sa Nogueira , wanted to perpetuate in the design of the station orange orchards, which were destroyed during the intensive expansion of Lisbon to the west. The lobby walls were decorated with ceramic tiles depicting oranges and orange trees [1] .
