Biography
Ivan Olenich was born on March 20, 1920 in the village of Noskivtsi (now the Zhmerinsky district of the Vinnitsa region of Ukraine ). After graduating from seven classes of school he worked in the mines. Later he graduated from the factory apprenticeship school , worked at the Nikolaevsky Shipbuilding Plant. In September 1940, Olenich was called up to serve in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . Since the beginning of World War II - on its fronts. In the battles he was wounded. In 1943, Olenich graduated from the Kiev Military School of Communications [1] .
By September 1943, Junior Lieutenant Ivan Olenich commanded a telephone-cable platoon of the 703rd separate communications company of the 38th Infantry Division of the 40th Army of the Voronezh Front . Distinguished during the battle for the Dnieper . On the night of September 23-24, 1943, a platoon of Olenich crossed the Dnieper near the village of Grigorovka, Kanevsky District, Cherkasy Oblast of the Ukrainian SSR, and took an active part in battles to seize and hold a bridgehead on its western bank, laying a communication cable and maintaining uninterrupted communication, quickly eliminating damage. Personally destroyed a large number of enemy soldiers and officers [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated January 10, 1944 for "exemplary performance of combat tasks of the command on the front of the fight against the German invaders and for showing courage and heroism" Junior Lieutenant Ivan Olenich was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Medal Star ” [1] .
In 1946, Olenich was transferred to the reserve. He lived at home, he worked at the farm. He died on March 31, 1987, was buried in Noskivtsi [1] .
He was also awarded the Order of the Patriotic War , 1st degree and a number of medals [1] .
