Serekunda is the largest city and business capital of the Gambian state, lying southwest of the state’s capital, Banjula . Located near the coast of the Atlantic Ocean, a few kilometers from coastal resorts. The population for 2006 was 335,733 people, currently [ what? ] - more than 350 thousand. The name means "house of the Sere family." Serekunda consists of 9 villages, which merged over time into a single whole.
