Charlotte County is located in the United States , Virginia . As of 2010 , the population was 12,586. Got its name in honor of the British princess Charlotte Mecklenburg .

According to the United States Census Bureau , the county’s total area is 1,240 km², of which 1,230 km² is land and 5.7 km² or 0.5% are water bodies.

According to the 2000 census [1] , the district has 12,472 residents comprising 4,951 households and 3,435 families . The population density is 10 people per km ². There are 5 734 residential buildings in the district, with a building density of 5 buildings per km ². Racial composition of the population: white - 65.51%, African - Americans - 32.89%, Native Americans ( Indians ) - 0.14%, Asians - 0.16%, representatives of other races - 0.70%, representatives of two or more races - 0.59%. Hispanics made up 1.65% of the population, regardless of race .
Of the total number of households , 28.10% are children under the age of 18, 52.50% of households are married couples living together, 13.00% of households are single women without a spouse, and 30.60% of households households are not related to families , 27.40% of households consist of one person, 13.30% of households consist of elderly people (65 years and older) living alone. The average household size is 2.47 people and the average family size is 3.00 people.
The age structure of the district: 24.30% under the age of 18, 7.20% from 18 to 24, 26.20% from 25 to 44, 24.80% from 45 to 64, and 17.50% from 65 and older. The average age of a resident of the district is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 92.00 males . For every 100 females over 18 years of age, 90.70 are males .
