History
It was formed in 1810 , when Bavaria, following a peace treaty, took away the Danube fortifications of Ulm . The border was established along the Danube and part of the city of Ulm, which were located on the right bank, became the embryo of the new city, which in 1814 officially began to be called Neu-Ulm (New Ulm).
The development of the city began after 1841, when the construction of the Ulm fortress began. In 1853 the railway was laid in Augsburg . Four years later, the coat of arms of the settlement was recognized, and the full status of the city of Neu-Ulm was received from the King of Bavaria, Ludwig II, in 1869.
After World War I, the garrison was dissolved.
During World War II , 80% of buildings and all bridges across the Danube were destroyed.
From 1945, a camp for displaced persons from the territory of the USSR was located in New Ulm.
In 1951 the city housed the American military base.
