The total length reaches 7-10 cm. The head is large, the muzzle is short, round, with a well-marked palpebral fissure. The nostrils are closer to the end of the muzzle than to the eye. The teeth are underdeveloped, sometimes fuzzy. Males have a throat pouch. The body is muscular. From the eyes to the paws stretch symmetrical folds. Limbs small, short. Toes of hind legs partially webbed. The skin is fine-grained. The color is grayish or brown with blackish specks or without them. The limbs are purple-brown. The eyes have a red iris.
It lives in western India ( Kerala , Karnataka , Tamil Nadu ). Loves tropical rain forests. Occurs at an altitude of 2000 meters above sea level. Active at night. It feeds on insects.
The female lays eggs in the cavity, filled with water, small reservoirs. The development of tadpoles continues from July to March. They eat only vegetable food. By the end of January, the rudiments of the hind limbs appear and the reduction of the stomach begins. In February, the formation of extremities ends and the tail resorption begins.
