Biography
William was born in Taganrog , in the family of a British consul. After the death of his father in 1842 , William was sent to a school in Dresden , where he began to study painting. Since 1848, he studied painting in London . Yims studied anatomy and composition from George Scarf and took art lessons from Westmacott. In 1852, he went to Florence, where he studied under Enrico Polastrini and Rafael Buonahuti. He continued his studies in Rome, where he copied the old masters, including the murals of Raphael . Returning to London in 1859, he founded his own studio.
Since 1866, William Frederick Yims became a member of the Royal Academy of Arts .
