The anime series “ Rurouni Kenshin ”, based on the manga of the same name by Nobuhiro Watsuki , tells the story of the wandering warrior Himura Kenshin , a Meiji swordsman who travels around Japan and helps people. The series was produced by Aniplex and Fuji TV . Studio Gallop and Studio Deen were directly involved in the animation under the direction of director Kazuhiro Furuhashi : Studio Gallop performed the first 70 episodes, the remaining ones were animated by Studio Deen [1] .
In Japan, the anime series was shown from January 10, 1996 to September 8, 1998 . The last, 95th, series was not shown on Japanese television, but was present on video cassettes and DVDs with the series [2] . In Russia, the anime series was shown under the name "Samurai X" channel STS from March 14 to July 27, 2006 [3] [4] . CTC has acquired the rights to the TV show of the anime, but not a license to release it on DVD, and thus the series in CTC translation cannot be acquired legally.
The series is divided into 3 seasons with an unequal number of episodes. The series from 1st to 27th roughly repeat the plot of the first six volumes of the manga, although they contain a number of fillers - episodes created by anime scriptwriters and not based on manga. The series from the 28th to the 62nd exactly follow the plot of the second part of the manga, set out in volumes from the 7th to the 18th. Finally, the third season, including the series from the 63rd to the 95th, consists entirely of fillers, which were created by the scriptwriters in order to allow the author of the manga to finish the work on the third, last part of it. However, the abundance of the series, not related to the plot of the main work, led to a decrease in the popularity of anime, and work on it was discontinued [5] . Nevertheless, some plot movements of the third part were later included in the OVA , which are part of the Rurouni Kenshin series.
Watsuki Nobuhiro, the author of the manga, received the news that his work was going to be turned into an anime series, gave his consent, although he was worried about the quality of what could happen [6] . Watsuki took very little part in the process of creating the anime [7] , but, according to him, it turned out better than he feared [8] . The manga creator was enthusiastic about the fillers, wanting to see how others would work with his work [9] . A few years after the end of the series, Watsuki, being asked about his attitude to the fillers during the interview, replied that nothing could be done about them, and it’s good that the writers didn’t create stories about the adventures of Kenshin in Hokkaido or America [10] .
