Traveling Notes from Tosa [1] or Travel Diary from Tosa [2] ( 土 佐 日記 / 土 左 日記, と さ に っ き Tosa-nikki ) is a work of Japanese literature from the 10th century by the Heian period in the travel diary genre. Posted by Ki-no Tsurayuki . The first Japanese diary, completely written in Japanese alphabet.

"Traveling Notes from Tosa" is a diary-style narrative of the 55-day ship trip of Ki no Tsurayuki from Tosa Province , where his term of office as a provincial in the Japanese capital Heian ended. The time of writing is unknown, but the most likely date is 935. The author acts as a woman and paints the details of each day of the journey with a “female letter” - the Kan alphabet.
The "Diary" is considered a landmark work in the history of Japanese literature, since it was the first work to be written not in Chinese characters , which were considered a "man’s letter", but in the usual alphabet. He is full of emotional experiences of the protagonist, the lack of political and social themes, a mixture of real and fictional worlds, as well as sketches in the form of 57 Japanese waka verses. The work is an expression of private harmony of a person and contrasted with the official regulations of the official.
The main theme of Travel Notes is not; but it contains a number of accompanying ones: the joys and difficulties of traveling, the variability of weather and the beauty of landscapes, meeting and parting with people, human kindness and maternal love, fear of natural disasters, love of the capital city, etc.
The original “Travel Notes” has not been preserved; today it exists in copies.
