Biography
Maxim Ogulenko was born on July 19, 1899 in Akkerman (now - Belgorod-Dniester Odessa region of Ukraine ). He graduated from elementary school. In 1918, Ogulenko voluntarily went to serve in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. He participated in the battles of the Civil War . Demobilized, he lived in Odessa , worked as a loader. June 23, 1941 Ogulenko was again drafted into the army and sent to the front of World War II. He was wounded twice in battles [1] .
By January 1945, the Red Army guard Maxim Ogulenko was a shooter of the 1st motorized rifle battalion of the 17th Guards Mechanized Brigade of the 6th Guards Mechanized Corps of the 4th Tank Army of the 1st Ukrainian Front . He distinguished himself during the liberation of Poland . In January 1945, Ogulenko was among the first to cross the Oder in the Köben area (now Khoben ) and took an active part in blocking the German pillboxes, destroying 2 enemy soldiers and capturing 2 more. Together with his comrades, he participated in repelling seven German counterattacks. On January 26, 1945, Ogulenko was the first to break into the enemy’s position and destroy the German machine gun, and his calculation was captured. In a subsequent battle, he was seriously wounded, but continued to fight [1] .
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of April 10, 1945, for the "exemplary fulfillment of command assignments at the front of the struggle against the German invaders and the valor and courage shown" of the guard, Red Army soldier Maxim Ogulenko was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Golden Star medal " [1] .
After the war, Ogulenko was demobilized. He returned to Odessa. He died on July 3, 1974 [1] .
He was also awarded a number of medals [1] .
In the village of Vypasnoe there is a street that bears the name of the Hero.
