Mike Skinner achieved his first chart success in 2001, when the single “Has It Come To This” climbed to the top twenty. The follow-up album Original Pirate Material (# 12, UK) was enthusiastically received by critics. In the UK, the album was nominated for a Mercury Prize (and for a long time was considered a favorite until it lost the victory to Ms Dynamite), after which Skinner received 4 Brit Awards in 2002 (best album, best urban artist, opening of the year and best British artist). [2] Leading music publications ( NME , Rolling Stone , Spin ) included Original Pirate Material in their first five best albums of 2002.
The second and third albums of The Streets ("A Grand Don't Come for Free", 2004 and "The Hardest Way to Make an Easy Living" [3] , April 2006) rose to the first place in Britain. Skinner's peak of popularity marked the release of the single "Dry Your Eyes" to the top of the UK Singles Chart .
The fourth album “Everything Is Borrowed” (2008, # 7 UK) differed from the previous ones in a softer sound and an almost complete absence of political statements. The Streets' fifth and final album, Computers and Blues, was released in February 2011.
The remix of his song “ Blinded By The Lights ” by Nero is widely known. The same remix is used as a soundtrack in the film “Slut” ( Sket ) .
Mike Skinner is currently in the DOT project.
