Biography
Yuri Mikhailovich Stoyko was born on October 9, 1947 at the Kulunda station in the Altai Territory . In 1972 he graduated from the S.M. Kirov Military Medical Academy in Leningrad . Over the next 6 years he served in the Pacific Fleet , occupying various surgical positions. In 1979, he successfully defended his Ph.D. thesis on the topic "Cholecystostomy in acute cholecystitis in the elderly and senile." In 1980, Stoiko graduated with honors from the faculty of senior medical staff in the Surgery cycle, after which he was appointed head of the surgical department of the Kronstadt Military Hospital . Since 1983, he began working at the S.M. Kirov Military Medical Academy. Initially, from 1983 to 1989, Stoiko held the positions of senior resident, teacher of the clinic and the department of hospital surgery. In 1989, he defended his doctoral dissertation on "Postoperative relapses of varicose veins." From 1989 to 1991, Stoiko was a senior lecturer at the Department of Naval and General Surgery, and from 1991 to 1998, a professor at the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery named after P.A. Kupriyanov. From 1998 to 2002, Yu. M. Stoiko was the head of the Department of Surgery for Advanced Medical Studies at the S. Kirov Military Medical Academy [1] [2] .
In 2002, Yu. M. Stoiko became the chief surgeon of the N.I. Pirogov National Medical and Surgical Center of the Ministry of Health of Russia and since that time - the chief surgeon of the Central Federal District of the Russian Federation. At the same time, since 2003, Stoyko has been the head of the Department of Surgery with a course of traumatology and orthopedics at the Institute of Advanced Medical Studies of the National Medical and Surgical Center named after N. I. Pirogov [1] [3] .
Contribution to Medical Science
Yu. M. Stoiko is the author and co-author of more than 400 printed scientific works, including 10 monographs and 2 textbooks [1] [3] .
With the direct participation of Yu. M. Stoiko, the team under his leadership obtained scientific data that made a significant contribution to the study of the physiology and pathology of the venous system, including cellular and genetic aspects. Theoretical and practical foundations of reconstructive operations for venous system pathology were developed, optimal therapeutic tactics for patients with chronic venous insufficiency were developed and scientifically substantiated, a system of rehabilitation measures for venous pathology was developed and put into practical medicine, an effective algorithm for diagnosing and preventing thrombotic complications was created, modern diagnostic and therapeutic methods are being introduced in abdominal surgery , endoscopy and phlebology [1] [ 2] .
