Biography
Anatoly Obukhovsky was born on May 15, 1925 in Zhitomir . After graduating from four grades of school, he worked on a collective farm. In January 1943, Obukhov was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. Since August of that year - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. In the battles he was wounded [1] .
By November 1943, Sergeant Anatoly Obukhovsky commanded the guns of the division of the 71st Mechanized Brigade of the 9th Mechanized Corps of the 3rd Guards Tank Army of the 1st Ukrainian Front . He distinguished himself during the liberation of the Kiev region of the Ukrainian SSR . On November 8, 1943, near the village of Volitsa, Fastovsky District, Obukhovsky was the first to find a convoy of a retreating enemy and reported this to the command, which decided to attack it. In that battle, Obukhovsky, with his calculation, destroyed 2 tanks, 5 artillery pieces, 2 tractors, a large number of other military equipment and more than 100 enemy soldiers and officers [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of January 10, 1944, for “courage and bravery shown in battles on the Right-Bank Ukraine,” Sergeant Anatoly Obukhovsky was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal number 2116 [1] .
In August 1944, Obukhov was seriously injured. After the war ended, he was demobilized as a senior sergeant. He lived and worked in Zhytomyr. Actively engaged in social activities. He died on April 24, 1997, was buried in the Zhytomyr cemetery "Friendship" (Korbutovsky) [1] .
Honorary Citizen of Zhytomyr. He was also awarded the Order of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree and a number of medals [1] .
