Aircraft

Tu-154 with serial number 74A-027 and serial number 00-27 was manufactured by the Kuibyshev aircraft factory in May 1972 and transferred to the Bulgarian airline Balkan , where it received the LZ-BTB flight number and began to operate. In July 1977, the aircraft was converted into a Tu-154 B model, while 3 NK-8-2U turbofan engines were installed on it. The LZ-BTB was one of the 6 Tu-154s leased from November 1977 to January 1978 by the Libyan airline Libyan Arab Airlines for the transport of pilgrims going on a hajj to Mecca and back ( see also about the LZ-BTN board ). The total flight time of the airliner by the day of the disaster was about 7800 hours [1] .

Holocaust

The aircraft performed a training flight (according to some data - cargo) along the route Sofia - Damascus - Sharjah . On board were 4 crew members, including a student pilot. The landing approach in Damascus was carried out under the supervision of a student who allowed a decrease below a safe height. As a result, 22.5 km northeast of Damascus airport, the Tu-154 crashed into a hill and completely collapsed. All 4 people on board were killed [2] [3] [4] .
