Biography

Stepan Novichkov was born on October 29, 1921 in the village of Klepalniki (now - Zaraysky district of the Moscow region ). He graduated from nine classes of the school, was engaged in an aero club, artillery and air special schools. In 1941, Novichkov was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . In 1942, he graduated from the Vyaznikov Military Aviation Pilot School. Since May of that year - on the fronts of World War II [1] .

By 1944, the senior lieutenant Stepan Novichkov commanded the link of the 67th Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment of the 1st Guards Fighter Air Division of the 16th Air Army of the Belarusian Front . By that time, he had made 173 sorties, shooting down 24 enemy aircraft in person [1] .

By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of February 4, 1944, for the “exemplary performance of command missions on the front line against the German invaders and the courage and heroism shown” of the guard, senior lieutenant Stepan Novichkov was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the medal “ Golden Star ” under number 2808 [1] .

He continued to fight equally bravely and successfully until the Victory. By May 9, 1945 he made 277 sorties, conducted 51 air battles, shot down 33 aircraft in person and 1 in the group.

In 1946, with the rank of lieutenant colonel Novichkov, he was sacked. He lived and worked in Moscow . He died on July 20, 1992, was buried in Moscow [1] .

Honorary Citizen of Zaraysk . He was also awarded three orders of the Red Banner , two orders of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree and the Order of the Patriotic War of the 2nd degree, a number of medals [1] .
