Biography
Born on October 16, 1919 in Kiev. He studied and worked in railway workshops.
In 1940, drafted into the ranks of the Red Army . He graduated from the Kiev Military Artillery School. He fought on the South-West, Stalingrad, Steppe fronts.
In August 1943, the armies of the Steppe Front attacked Kharkov. On August 28, 1943, our positions south of Gusinaya Polyana were attacked by fascist infantry and tanks. The enemy was numerically superior. On the slopes of a height of 161.1 in the battle formations of our rifle units on a direct fire were the guns of the battery of Captain I. I. Reshetey. Rifle units began to retreat. A critical situation has arisen.
Guard captain I.I. Reshetey, with three scouts and five telephone operators, got up from hiding and, setting an example for retreating soldiers, counterattacked the enemy, destroying him with machine gun fire and grenades. The attack was repelled. Guard captain I.I. Reshetey, replacing the dead calculation of the gun, he fired on the tanks and from a distance of three hundred meters destroyed two enemy tanks. With a third shot, he burned a self-propelled gun. The enemy was again forced to stop the attack.
In a new attack launched by the enemy on September 10, 1943, at a height of 172.1, the gunners were without sufficient rifle cover and entered into combat with two hundred enemy machine gunners. He died in battle. He was buried in a mass grave in the village of Borki, Zmievsky district, Kharkov region .
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of December 20, 1943, for the courage, bravery and heroism shown in the battles to liberate Kharkov, the guard, Captain Reshetiy Ivan Ivanovich was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union .
He was awarded the Order of Lenin .
