Content
Distribution and Ecology
China ( Chongqing , Gansu , Hubei , Sichuan ), Northern Taiwan , the northern half of Japan from the central part of Honshu to the Tohoku region , to Shikoku ( Ehime and Kochi prefectures) are rare. It is found at altitudes from 1000 to 3400 meters above sea level. Coniferous and deciduous forests, grassy slopes with rich humus soil. They may form disparate but vast clusters [2] [4] .
Botanical Description
Herbaceous perennials 10-30 cm high.
The rhizome is relatively short.
The stem is straight, slender, bare with two leaves at the top.
There are two leaves , broad-ovoid, triangular-ovate or heart-shaped. Located horizontally. Leaf blades 2.5–7 × 2.5–7 cm, at the apex sharp or shortly pointed, bare.
The inflorescence is terminal, carries one flower. Bracts linear, 1.5-3 cm, glabrous. The flower is small (1.5-2 cm), often hidden under the leaves. The sepals and petals are pale green or yellowish-green, with maroon heels or dots; lip is marsupial, white with maroon spots from the inside and sometimes shelves towards the mouth. The sail is narrowly ovate-lanceolate, 1-2 × 0.5-0.7 cm, naked, pointed at the apex. Petals lanceolate, 1-2 × 0.3-0.5 cm, apex sharp, often somewhat covering the lip. Staminode rounded or ovoid, 1-2 mm. It blooms in May - June.
The fruit is a box .
The number of chromosomes : 2n = 20 [2] .
In Culture
It grows well in culture for one to two years, but any long-term cultivation of this species is problematic. It is recommended to grow in pots in an organic soil mixture (50% leaves of deciduous trees ( beech or maple ) and 50% perlite , etc.). The soil should be acidic. Humidity should always be high, at least 60%. The introduction of a large number of fertilizers is not recommended [4] .
Zones of frost resistance : 6-7 [5] .
According to The International Orchid Register [6] as of April 2014, no grexes involving Cypripedium debile were registered.
