Biography
Born December 4, 1802 in the county of Derbyshire . He studied at Christ College of Cambridge University, in 1825 received a bachelor's degree, in 1831 - a master's. From 1832 to 1854, Lowe was chaplain in Madeira . Upon returning to England, he became a parish priest in the village of Lee, Lincolnshire County .
Subsequently, Lau visited Madeira several more times, and also studied botany in Morocco , the Orkney Islands , the Canary Islands and the Cape Verde Islands . During one of the voyages to Madeira on April 13, 1874, the Liberia steamer, on which Richard Lau and his wife Katherine sailed, fell into a severe storm near Sicily and sank, killing everyone on board.
Richard Lau's herbarium is split between the British Museum (BM), the University of Cambridge (CGE) and the Kew Botanical Gardens (K).
