Biography
Nikolay Nikolchuk was born on December 6, 1919 in the village of Orinin (now - Kamenets-Podolsky district of the Khmelnytsky region of Ukraine ). He graduated from ten classes of school. In 1938, Nikolchuk was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . In 1940 he graduated from the Sumy Artillery School. Since July 1941 - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. In battles he was wounded twice [1] .
By the end of 1944, Captain Nikolai Nikolchuk commanded the battery of the 1301th cannon artillery regiment of the 61st cannon artillery brigade of the 16th artillery division of the 7th Guards Army of the 2nd Ukrainian Front . Distinguished during the storming of Budapest . On December 30, 1944, in the battle for the Budapest suburb of Rakoshsentimikhal Nikoltuk, led the advance team, conducted reconnaissance of the enemy's fire system. When the enemy troops surrounded his group, Nikolchuk successfully organized all-round defense , reflecting their counterattack all day long. At the critical moment of the battle, he summoned fire on himself, which helped the group from the environment to break through [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated May 15, 1946, Captain Nikolai Nikolchuk was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal number 6310 [1] .
After the end of the war, Nikolchuk continued his service in the Soviet Army. In 1959, in the rank of lieutenant colonel, he was dismissed. He lived and worked in Uzhgorod . He died on October 10, 1976 , buried on the Hill of Glory of Uzhgorod [1] .
He was also awarded the Order of the Red Banner and two Orders of the Red Star , along with a number of medals [1] .
