Named for Zhumat Shanin , one of the founders of the Kazakh national professional theatrical art, born in this village in 1892.

In 1999, the population of the village was 1014 people (506 men and 508 women) [4] . According to the 2009 census , 861 people lived in the village (445 men and 416 women) [4] .
