Biography

Born on January 27, 1920 in the city of Squira, Kiev region . In 1940, drafted into the ranks of the Red Army . In the battles of World War II since 1941. He fought on the Western, Bryansk and 2nd Belorussian fronts.

In June 1944, there were fights for the capture of Orsha. The 2nd Panzer Corps received the task: to cut the Orsha-Lepel railway and intercept the Minsk Highway. The tank battalion, which included the crew of junior lieutenant N. M. Olshevsky, approached the village of Kiseli and was stopped by enemy fire here. The battalion commander on the radio ordered N. M. Olshevsky reconnaissance to find out the situation. The tank of N. M. Olshevsky rushed at full speed at the enemy, with a sliding ramming blow to the rear engine part, the enemy tank was disabled, it broke out and smoked. To the right, N. M. Olshevsky saw a self-propelled gun in a shelter, just as quickly dealt with it and then burst into the village. Along the street was a column of enemy vehicles with infantry. N. M. Olshevsky sent the tank to the head vehicle. With fire and caterpillars, he destroyed 8 cars with the Nazis. The road to the battalion was cleared.

With his heroic feat, the crew of N. M. Olshevsky ensured the fulfillment of the task not only of the battalion, but of the entire brigade. June 27, 1944 Orsha was released. Minsk highway intercepted.

In one of the further battles, the crew of N. M. Olshevsky came close to enemy positions. Firing, the tankers immediately rushed into the enemy’s location, destroying it with fire and caterpillars. 12 cannons, 4 mortars, 7 tractors, 40 cars, 60 wagons - the result of a rapid attack.

In August 1944, during the liberation of Lithuania from the Nazi invaders, Nikolai Mikhailovich Olshevsky was seriously wounded and died on August 22, 1944. He was buried in Vilnius, at the memorial ensemble created in 1951 at the Antakalnis Cemetery in memory of the Soviet soldiers of World War II .

By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of March 24, 1945, for the courage and bravery shown in battles with the Nazi invaders, Junior Lieutenant Nikolai Mikhailovich Olshevsky was posthumously awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union .

He was awarded the Order of Lenin . A street in Minsk is named after the Hero.
