Biography
Panchenko Mikhail Tikhonovich was born in 1911 in the village of Petrovka in the Poltava province in a peasant family. He graduated from a seven-year school. He worked at the Velikobagachansky state farm , and then at the Globinsky sugar factory.
He participated in battles against the fascist invaders since July 1941. He fought on the Voronezh and 1st Ukrainian fronts.
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of October 29, 1943, for the courage and bravery shown during the crossing of the Desna and the Dnieper , the sapper of the 842th Infantry Regiment of the 240th Infantry Division, Red Army soldier MT Panchenko was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union.
He was awarded the Order of Lenin, a number of medals.
In 1944, after a severe wound, he was demobilized, returned to his native village, worked as chairman of a collective farm . In 1959, Mikhail Tikhonovich Panchenko died. He was buried in the village of Petrovka, Globinsky district .
