Biography
Alexander Nikolayenko was born on April 2, 1920 in Smolensk . After finishing seven classes of the school he worked as a locksmith. In parallel with work, he was engaged in a flying club. In 1938, Nikolayenko was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. In 1940, he graduated from the Odessa Military Aviation Pilot School. Since the beginning of World War II - on its fronts [1] .
By April 1943, Senior Lieutenant Alexander Nikolaenkov was deputy squadron commander of the 760th Fighter Aviation Regiment of the 261st Combined Air Division of the 7th Air Army of the Karelian Front . By that time, he had completed 229 sorties, took part in 28 air battles, shooting down 8 enemy aircraft in person and 23 more as part of the group. For these exploits was presented to the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of August 24, 1943, for the "exemplary performance of combat missions of command on the front of the struggle against the German invaders and the courage and heroism shown at the same time," senior lieutenant Alexander Nikolayenko was awarded the high rank of Hero of the Soviet Union .
On July 4, 1943, in the battle, Nikolayenkov’s plane was shot down, and the pilot himself was seriously wounded, from which he died on July 7, 1943. He was buried in a military cemetery in the village of Louhi in Karelia [1] .
By the time of his death, Alexander Nikolayenko performed about 250 sorties, conducted more than 30 air battles, personally shot down 10 and as part of a group of 23 enemy aircraft [2] .
He was also awarded the Orders of Lenin (04/28/1943) and the Red Banner (12/10/1942) [1] .
