Biography
Vladimir Nikolaev was born on February 9, 1921 in Kazan . After graduating from eight grades of school, he worked as a mechanic in a factory. In 1939, Nikolaev was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. In 1941, he graduated from the Chkalov Tank School. Since June 1942 - on the fronts of World War II [1] .
By August 1944, Captain Vladimir Nikolaev was the deputy battalion commander of the 56th Guards Tank Brigade, 7th Guards Tank Corps , 3rd Guards Tank Army , 1st Ukrainian Front . He distinguished himself during the liberation of Poland . When Nikolaev was wounded in one of the battles and headed to the hospital, at the critical moment of the battle, he had to take over the leadership of the defense crossing the Vistula River near the village of Kolo , 2 kilometers west of the city of Baranuv Sandomierski . On 3–4 August 1944, a large number of German counterattacks were repelled under his leadership [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of September 23, 1944, for the “courage and heroism shown when crossing the Vistula and holding the bridgehead on its western shore” of the guard, Captain Vladimir Nikolaev was awarded the high rank of Hero of the Soviet Union . He did not manage to receive the Order of Lenin and the Golden Star medal , as he died in battle on October 30, 1944. He was buried on the Hill of Glory in Lviv [1] .

He was awarded two orders of Lenin, orders of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree and the Red Star [1] .
Memory
In honor of Nikolaev the street in Kazan is named [1] .
