The protagonists of the series are Fox Mulder ( David Duchovny ) and Dana Scully ( Gillian Anderson ), FBI agents investigating difficult to scientifically explain crimes called the X-Files [1] .

In the USA, the series received a Nielsen household rating of 10.3, which means that on the day of the release, 9.8 million households watched the series.

Story

In this episode, Mulder and Scully investigate the mysterious killings of people killed by an obscure creature, leaving a strange scar on the victim's body. The investigation leads the agents into the big top of the circus freaks, where mysterious crimes continue. [2]

Darin Morgan, at the suggestion of producer Howard Gordon, shortly after the episode was released, became a full-time screenwriter for the series. A bizarre, funny, sometimes terrible story about a series of murders in a colony of freak colony is considered a milestone in the history of the series, expanding the usual framework of gloomy tones in a funny, less predictable direction [3] . For this episode, Darin Morgan was nominated for the Edgar Allan Poe Award [4] .
