Biography

From a young age, Cassagnac Jr. became famous for his sharp press tricks, which caused a long series of duels and prosecutions. In recent years, the Second Empire became the editor-in-chief of the semi-official newspaper Pays, in which he fought for the interests of Bonapartism for many years. He participated as a volunteer in the war with Prussia , was captured near Sedan.

At the end of the war, he published the Appel au peuple newspaper in the Gers department, and then again took up editing Pays.

In 1876 he was elected to the Chamber of Deputies, where he soon adopted a system of interruption of speakers and personal attacks. In his newspaper, he called on Marshal McMahon to carry out a coup.

On June 27, 1878 , he married Countess Julie Acar.

After the death of Prince Napoleon , who was killed on June 1, 1879 in the war against the Zulus, Cassagnac refused to recognize Jerome Napoleon as the head of the dynasty and took the side of Victor Napoleon .

In 1886 he left the editorial office of Pays and founded his own newspaper Autorité.

In the era of Boulangerism (late 1880s), he played an active role in organizing the anti-republican coalition.

In December 1891, when discussing the issue of relations between the church and the state in the Chamber of Deputies, he declared that he disagreed with the monarchist parties on this issue and supported the separation of the church as beneficial for the church itself.

Journalism

He published several brochures and pamphlets: Empire et royauté (1873); "Bataille électorale" (1875), "Histoire de la troisième République" (1875) and others.
