Biography
He received a degree in history and literature from the University of Oslo . Before devoting himself entirely to writing, he worked as a journalist and taught at the Norwegian School of Journalism. He made his debut as a writer in 1975 with a collection of short story wasps . His bibliography includes 15 novels, 3 books for children, a storybook, and several non-fiction works.
In 1992, his novel Trollbyen was awarded the Braga Prize for the best novel. In 2003, Alnes was awarded the Braga Prize for his contribution to the development of literature. He was awarded the Dobloug Prize ( en: Doblougprisen ) in 1998.
His book History of Norway (5 volumes; 1996–2000) received the Sverre Steen Prize awarded by the Norwegian Historical Society and topped the list of best-selling Norwegian non-fiction books. She also became the basis for the television series, in which Alnes acted as director and director.
His book “History of Europe” (in 4 vols; 2003-2006) has been translated into several languages. Like her predecessor, she is still reprinted.
Alnes was twice elected president of the Norwegian Writers Association (an analogue of the PEN Club) for the period 1985-1987. and 1999-2001, and takes an active part in the activities of the International PEN Club.
