Youth and Pre-War Service

Born September 12, 1905 in Kazan in a working class family. He graduated from the 2nd grade of the parish school in Ryazan in 1917, the 8th grade of the evening school number 8 at the factory number 40 in Kazan in 1925. He worked as an electric wrapper at a factory.

In May 1926 he was drafted into the Red Army . In 1929 he graduated from the Moscow All-Russian Military School named after the All-Russian Central Executive Committee . After her graduation, he served in the 164th Infantry Regiment of the 55th Infantry Division of the Moscow Military District : commander of a machine gun platoon , from April 1931 - assistant commander of a machine gun company . from October 1931 - commander of a machine gun company. In 1934 he was transferred to the armored forces and sent to study courses for the improvement of command personnel of the armored and mechanized troops. After their graduation, in January 1935 he was appointed commander of the training company of the 14th mechanized brigade , in June of the same year he was appointed to serve for commissions under the commander of the 5th mechanized brigade . From May 1936, he served as chief of staff of the tank battalion of the 14th mechanized brigade, in January 1937 he was appointed to serve on assignments under the commander of the 5th mechanized brigade, but in April 1938 he was returned to the post of chief of staff of the tank battalion of the 14th mechanized brigade.

However, he did not have to serve in a new position, since on April 15, 1938, Senior Lieutenant B.V. Shulgin was arrested by the NKVD of the USSR on charges of counter-revolutionary crimes . Ironically, after 2 days, the order of the USSR people's commissar of defense was signed on awarding him the next military rank “captain”. He spent several months in prison under investigation, and was released due to the dismissal of the case in early 1939.

In May 1939 he was appointed senior adjutant of the battalion of the 8th separate motor transport regiment, in January 1940 he was appointed commander of the 249th separate motor battalion. In March 1940 he was transferred to the 14th tank brigade of the Kiev Special Military District , where he was appointed chief of staff of a separate tank battalion, and in July 1940 - commander of the heavy tank battalion in the 14th tank division of the Moscow military district ( Naro-Fominsk ). Since November 1940 - Chief of Staff of the 28th Tank Regiment of the 14th Panzer Division.

World War II

A veteran of the Great Patriotic War from July 1941, as part of the division, fought on the Western Front. In September 1941, he was recalled from the front and sent to the 3rd Saratov Armored School : deputy commander of a battalion of cadets, since November 1941 commander of a tank battalion of school support. Since June 1942, he was the chief of staff of the 212nd Tank Brigade on the Western Front ; since August, he served as brigade commander [1] . After the reorganization of the brigade into the 212nd Tank Regiment in October 1942, he was appointed commander of this regiment [2] . At these posts he participated in the Battle of Stalingrad on the South-Western and Don Fronts.

In February 1943, Lt. Col. B.V. Shulmin was appointed commander of the 17th Guards Tank Brigade of the 1st Guards Tank Corps and at the head of it fought until Victory. [3] He fought on the Bryansk , 1st Belorussian and 2nd Belorussian fronts. He participated in the Middle Don and Millerovo-Voroshilovgrad offensive operations, in the Kharkov defensive operation , in the Battle of Kursk ( Orel operation ), in the Gomel-Rechitsa , Kalinkovichi-Mozyr , Belorussian , East Prussian , East Pomeranian and Berlin offensive operations. The brigade under his command was one of the excellent parts of the corps, was awarded the honorary name Orlovskaya, and was awarded three orders.

Colonel Shulgin, commander of the 17th Guards Tank Brigade of the Guard, distinguished himself especially in the battles during the liberation of Poland during the Serotsk offensive operation . Having gone over after an extremely short preparation on the offensive on September 4, 1944 and breaking through the German defenses on the western bank of the Western Bug River near the city of Vyshkuv , the brigade, under the command of the Guard Colonel Shulgin, fought 35 kilometers, reached the end of the same day on the Narev River and in cooperation with other parts of the corps captured the bridgehead, inflicted heavy losses in manpower and technology of the enemy. It defeated up to 2 infantry battalions, destroyed 3 artillery batteries, 6 tanks and self-propelled guns, 10 armored personnel carriers with infantry, 2 warehouses with ammunition and other engineering equipment [4] . The brigade played a large role in the capture, retention and expansion of the strategically important Serotsky bridgehead .

By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated April 6, 1945 “for exemplary performance of the Command’s combat missions at the front of the battle against the German invaders and shown courage and heroism” to the guard, Colonel Shulgin Boris Vladimirovich was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal " [4] .

During the war years he was wounded three times (07/15/1941, 10/15/1944, 04/28/1945).

Post-war time

After the war he continued to serve in the Soviet Army . Since November 1945, he was deputy commander of the 2nd Guards Mechanized Division in the 3rd Shock Army of the Group of Soviet Occupation Troops in Germany . From March 1946 to November 1948 he commanded the 18th Mechanized Division . In 1949 he graduated from advanced training courses for commanders of rifle divisions at the MV Frunze Military Academy . Since February 1949 - commander of the 19th Guards Mechanized Division . Since March 1951 - commander of the 73rd Rifle Corps in the 3rd Army .

In 1954 he graduated from the Higher Academic Courses at the K.E. Voroshilov Higher Military Academy . Since July 1954, he served as an assistant commander - head of the combat training department of the Belomorsky Military District , and from May 1956 - first deputy commander of the troops of the South Ural Military District . Since July 1957, he was on a business trip to China , being a military adviser to the head of the Main Directorate of Inspection and Combat Training of the People's Liberation Army of China . Since November 1958 - Deputy Commander - Head of the Combat Training Directorate of the Kiev Military District . Since May 1960, the lieutenant general of tank troops Shulgin - retired. He lived in Kiev.

He died on November 1, 1962. He was buried in Kiev at the Baykovsky cemetery .
