History

The school of pedagogy traces its history from the Nikolsk-Ussuriysk women's teacher’s seminary, opened on September 7, 1909. [1] [2] In 1923, the seminary was reorganized into pedagogical courses, and then into a pedagogical college. In 1949, a teacher institute was opened on the basis of the technical school. On October 1, 1954, the teacher institute was transformed into the Ussuriysk State Pedagogical Institute [2] [3] .

1954 is the year the university was founded. Then it consisted of two faculties, which trained about 150 people [4] .

By the end of the 1970s, the Ussuriysk State Pedagogical Institute had 15 departments and four faculties: physical and mathematical, biological and chemical, philological and the faculty of foreign languages. More than 2 thousand full-time students and more than one and a half thousand correspondence students studied at the institute. The pedagogical institute employed more than 200 teachers. In the library of the institute, there were more than 230 thousand books. At the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics, the course "Computational Mathematics and Programming" was taught, the office of computer facilities worked ( Minsk 14 computer). Students and teachers of the Faculty of Biology and Chemistry at the Institute created a zoological museum. Each faculty had various student groups. The Institute has established links with many rural schools in the Primorsky Territory [4] .

By the end of the 2000s, the Ussuriysk State Pedagogical Institute graduated more than 25 thousand young specialists. There were 9 faculties at the institute, where about 5 thousand full-time and part-time students studied [2] . The Institute trained specialists in 18 pedagogical and four university majors. According to the governor of Primorsky Krai Sergey Darkin , the institute trained 78 percent of all teachers of schools of the region [5] . More than 350 teachers worked at the institute, postgraduate study in 16 specialties worked [2] . The Institute has established close ties with a number of Russian and foreign universities [6] . Among the graduates of the university was S. Yu. Orlova , Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council (from 2004 to 2013).

In 2010, the Ussuriysk State Pedagogical Institute became part of the Far Eastern Federal University and was transformed into the FEFU School of Pedagogy.
